Hip Hop Roundup #1
A roundup of hip hop tracks that are bumping around in my headphones is going to be something that I publish from time to time. A mixture of new and old, there is sure to be something that you dig in here.
Elzhi – “The Big F.U.”
We’re going to start off with some real old school shit. Jason Powers, better known as Elzhi, is a rapper from Detroit, MI. “The Big F.U.” is a track that you can find on his debut EP, Out of Focus, released in 1998.
Madvillain – “Monkey Suit”
Madvillain is MF Doom and Madlib, a group responsible for short hip hop tunes that you would never hear on the radio. “Monkey Suit” comes off of Madvillainy 2 with an interesting, muted synth melody over some beats that are straight to business.
One Be Lo – “Decepticons”
Another Michigan rapper and half of hip hop group Binary Star, One Be Lo is a talented lyricist who delivers his rhymes with a bulletproof flow. Give “Decepticons” a listen.
Mike G ft. Speak! – “Seasons”
Mike G is one of the members of Odd Future that I can fuck with. “Seasons” is a solid slow burner that he released on SoundCloud a week ago, give it a listen.
